Topic: Metrics: What Are the Cyber Security Studies Telling Us?
In today’s world of interconnected information the threat of data breaches has reached a level of concern that has never been seen before. To help present the information and provide awareness about the threats a variety of organizations have taken on the task of gathering and analyzing the information available to them. The presentation on cyber security studies will pull all the findings together to help us understand the magnitude of the problem. Wlosinski will review metric types, the content and findings of various IT security studies and surveys to include Cisco, F-Secure, Ponemon, Microsoft, Symantec, Trustwave, Verizon, and Websense to mention a few. The topics discussed include: industry trends, exploits, vulnerabilities, threats, malware, cost of cybercrime, data breaches, big analytics, critical infrastructure, and more. Attendees will learn about the types of studies and who does them, the information sources, and the findings. The course is intended for IT security managers, their support staff, security professionals, and anyone interested in learning about how you and the world are affected by malicious Internet activity.

Larry is a professional IT Security Consultant at ActioNet, Inc. He has over 39 years of experience, with the last 14 dedicated to information security. He has IT security experience in assessments and audits; incident response; cloud security; policy and procedures; contingency planning; and awareness and training. He was a Section Manager at Computer Science Corporation (CSC), an Information Security Manager for Lockheed Martin, and an Associate at Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH). His commercial experience includes insurance, interstate and international banking, and collections. Federal government experience includes EPA, NIH, CMS, DOJ, DOE, DIA, and NOAA. He is a member of the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC)2, Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), Disaster Recovery International Institute (DRII), Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), and was President of the Niagara Frontier Chapter of the Data Processing Management Association (DPMA). He has also been a speaker on cloud security at federal and professional conferences and other topics, has given classes and lectures on IT security topics, has written many articles, and is a contributing author to the CISM Review Guide.
