Abstract:  As an ever-increasing number of threats emerge, Information Security professionals have moved from asking when a breach will occur to whether they have already been attacked. Defensive techniques have recently shifted from relying on technology to using technology as a detection tool. This shift requires educated responders to consistently review logs and patterns in systems and identify unauthorized access or abuse. By monitoring patterns, responders search for “insider threats” or “lateral movement” by attackers. At the core of this strategy lies the Security Operations Center (SOC). The SOC serves as the first line of defense in a Security Incident Management Program.
